Church of Agia Marina
The small village of Agia Marinouda
belongs to the district of Pafos. On the north
side of the community you will meet a church,
which is dedicated to Saint Marina (Agia Marina).
The church was built in 1985
with the contribution of the habitants and with
the support of donations. It is said that on the
same location there was an older chapel, which
was built in 1920. Unfortunately it has collapsed
because it was not sturdy enough.
The church has a rectangular
form with an arched roof, and on the outside it
is covered with stones. The dome stands on the
east side of the ecclesiastic building and it
is very tall, with small archs and two electronic
bells. The church’s yard is very big and paved
with slabs.
On the inside of the church
there are no wall paintings or gallery. Its capacity
is about 150 people. The iconostasis is wooden;
graven and the holy icons are relatively new.
You will also find wooden psalters and a despotic
throne. The community of Agia Marinouda has done
its best to create a beautiful church.
The feast of Agia Marina is
on 17 July and many faithful visit the church
every year to honor the Saint.
Chapel (remnants) of
Agios Constantinos and Agia Eleni
The exact date of the
chapel’s construction is still unknown. It is
situated on the east side of the village, among
the houses of the community. The only two things
left to remember us its existence are the ruins
of the chapel and the iconostasis (case) where
the icon of the Saints is kept. Many faithful
visit the chapel to pray and light the vigil candle
of Agios Constantinos and Agia Eleni. It seems
that the chapel collapsed after a big earthquake,
which took place in the area and it remains derelict
until now.
